I can’t stop laughing at this one
Last week I wrote that as the 2024 election was becoming the Kamala Harris show, Donald Trump was reaching the “setting himself on fire for attention” stage of his downfall. Trump then proceeded to prove me all too right, as he held the most embarrassing press conference of all time, and then claimed that Harris’ massive crowds are AI generated fake people. Now Trump has taken things in an even more embarrassing direction.
Donald Trump finally returned to Twitter for real today. He claimed he was returning quite awhile ago, but he only proceeded to post one tweet before disappearing from the platform again. But now Trump seemingly is back on Twitter for real, with a flurry of tweets that are little more than the same kind of crap he’s been posting on Truth Social all this time.
If Trump were serious about getting his words heard during this election cycle, he’d have returned to Twitter as soon as he was reinstated. Twitter, for all its name changes and increasing problems, is still the social media platform in politics. There just isn’t the same juice on any other platform – and certainly not on Truth Social.
Yet Trump didn’t return to Twitter when he was reinstated. Nor did he return to Twitter back when he was claiming he was returning to Twitter. Instead he waited until now, when he’s fallen behind in the election and everyone thinks he’s a punchline, to finally limp back onto Twitter.
It’s emblematic of how Donald Trump has always handled things since he entered the political arena nearly a decade ago. He spends way too long tepidly failing to act, and then he only ends up taking desperate belated action after it’s too late to matter.
Trump is finally back on Twitter, now that it’s too late to matter. He didn’t have the sense to get back on Twitter when he still had the momentum, or even once he saw the momentum starting to slip away from him. Like always, Trump waited until too late. And now even his return to Twitter is a joke, because these days everyone can see the desperation dripping from his every panicked move.
What’s more, Trump is way too far gone cognitively to be able to help himself by being on Twitter anyway. Half his Truth Social posts read like they’re coming from an unhinged senile old man who’s losing his mind about losing, and the other half read like his babysitters are trying and failing to ghost write in his style. Now he’s going to dump that same desperate nonsense on Twitter, where everyone will see it? Good luck with that.
