“I am not a crook!”

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

As I sipped a beverage, (though I do not remember what TYPE of beverage it was), I watched the images on the television screen which were, though I did not know it at the time, giving me my first glimpse into what, for me, would become a lifelong passion.

“I am not a crook!!” Those words were uttered by another bad apple President — Richard Nixon — also known to some as “Tricky Dicky.” I was just a child, sitting in a rambling mountain house on vacation with my parents. As young as I was, I was mesmerized, in my first introduction to politics.

“I am not a crook!” “I’m innocent. Jack Smith is a thug!”

Nixon, once known as the proverbial bad seed politician, looks like a walk in the park, next to Donald Trump. And yet back then, this country was capable of doing something we are not capable of now. Both parties uniting by doing the right thing.

Although Watergate started out with a great many people against it, as time went on and more hearings were held, and more truths came out, the people gradually came to change their minds. Sadly, we have lost that precious unity. That is because the Republican party has turned into a group of enablers. Nothing, it seems, will ever get them to turn on their master, and nothing will get them to admit — shock — they made a mistake.

It seems these days it’s getting harder and harder for Republicans to apologize for anything. Nor can they admit they’re wrong about much. The opposite of what they once were, today’s republican party not only would have been all in for Nixon, they’d have likely vigorously defended him as well.

“I am not a crook!”

I’ll never forget that defensive cry. But you see, he WAS a crook. So are ALL Republicans today — ALL who do not break the cycle of silence and SPEAK UP! They are crooks, stealing the truth away from politics and hiding it in honor of Donald Trump. They are thieves, trying to steal democracy and make it vanish. They are Robbers, robbing people of political sanity, all to curry favor with a sociopath. Yes, the GOP are also crooks, and it’s never been more obvious.
