How the Democrats are mastering the moment
Anybody who has ever said the Democrats didn’t know how to fight really needs to apologize. The Democrats have, in the last few weeks, shown they are a strong and passionate party, and they’ve proven it by passing bill after bill. They also prove it every moment in their response to Donald Trump’s latest mess.
Contrary to what many thought would happen, Democrats are not rushing out to scream “Trump’s going to prison” or anything like that. The response from Democrats, for the most part, has been rather subdued. And that is exactly how they should be playing it.
The worst thing Democrats could do now is to come out with cackles of “I told you so.” Their response instead has mirrored the seriousness of the occasion. This is more than just a little mess. It’s an explosion. This country has never had a President investigated for espionage before.
And if charges are brought, it will be the biggest scandal ever in politics. So it stands to reason the Democrats would want to keep their cards close.
The bottom line is they’re handling this with dignity. Unlike the GOP, who is rushing forward, frantically defending Trump and running their own brand in the process. The democrats are choosing to let Merrick Garland and the Justice Department do the talking. And it seems the Justice Department has much to say indeed.
