How Donald Trump blew it
From the start of this election cycle, Donald Trump has expected that Joe Biden would likely end up being his general election opponent. We know this because Trump got himself impeached by conspiring with a foreign country to try to create a phony scandal about Biden.
Yet in all the time that Trump was expecting to end up facing Biden, he never could come up with an effective strategy of attack. Trump spent a long time painting Biden as “low energy” or senile, but all that did was make it easy for Biden to disprove it all, simply by showing up and not being those things.
When Trump belatedly figured out the strategy wasn’t working, he shifted to wild criminal conspiracy theories about Biden’s family, he went so absurdly over the top with it that no one outside the Trump bubble ended up buying into it.
All that Joe Biden had to do during the final debate was to come off like a guy who’s neither a senile fool nor an evil scheming crime family mob boss, and Biden easily pulled it off. Biden is a strong candidate and he’s run a smart and strong campaign. But Trump’s clueless approach has made things even easier for Biden.
