House Republicans file ethics complaints accusing each other of violence, Senate Republican threatens to beat up a witness, as it all falls apart for the GOP

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. In the midst of a week in which House Republicans had to give up on their hope of shutting down the government, and had to give up on their hope of impeaching DHS Secretary Mayorkas, you’d think that any distraction would help them. Instead they’ve managed to land on the one kind of distraction that’s even more embarrassing for them.

Infighting has gotten so bad that Kevin McCarthy allegedly threw an elbow at his fellow House Republican Tim Burchett in a hallway, leading Matt Gaetz to file a complaint with the House Ethics Committee. That’s a hoot, given that the House Ethics Committee is already reportedly working on an expulsion recommendation against Gaetz. This is like if all the biggest misbehavers in the class decided to start ratting each other out to the teacher at the same time.

Even the Republican Senate is unraveling. After Matt Gaetz got Kevin McCarthy ousted as Speaker, Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin began making accusations about Gaetz’s personal life to the media. But in a hearing today, Mullin threatened to get into a fistfight with a witness who was testifying to a Senate committee. No really, this happened.

The Republicans are imploding in real time. And why wouldn’t they be? They’re stuck with a 2024 Republican “frontrunner” who’s toxically unpopular and senile and on his way to prison. They’re stuck with not being able to carry out any of their agenda in the House. They’re on track to lose the majority in 2024. So yeah, no wonder they’re melting down.
