House Republicans break the bad news to Jim Jordan in closed door meeting
Jim Jordan, like his pal Donald Trump, just doesn’t know when to give up and admit that he’s lost. Jordan lost the Speaker battle by even more votes in the second round than he did in the first round, and even after calling off the third round vote he’s still insisting on staying in the race. But he just refuses to drop out.
Even amid reports that some House Republicans are refusing to meet with Jim Jordan or take his calls, some other House Republicans did meet with Jordan today. Their message: it’s over, drop out. More to the point, they’re leaking to the media that they told Jordan to drop out.
So where does Jim Jordan go from here? Probably nowhere but down. Jordan has always been a nasty villain, but he used to be more of a pragmatic villain. Now he seems to have bought into the Trump-like notion that if he loses and he just keeps digging an even deeper hole, he’ll somehow magically come out on top. Of course Trump is now headed for prison. Maybe Jordan should take a hint. Or if he wants to go the Trump route and completely destroy himself, so be it.
