House Republican makes resignation official

House Republicans are already failing to function with a small majority. Now that majority is getting smaller. They just finished expelling George Santos in the hope of insulating themselves from his scandals. And now another House Republican is heading for the exit.

House Republican Bill Johnson previously announced that he was going to leave before the end of his term in order to take a university job. Now he’s submitted his letter of resignation, making it official. He’s in a far right district and he’ll be replaced by another Republican, but his seat will remain vacant for 90 days or more, making the House Republican majority even smaller. This comes after other Republicans like Kevin McCarthy have also announced they’re leaving before the end of their term.

This is why it’s so vital that we get behind Democratic candidate Tom Suozzi right now in the February 13th special election to replace George Santos. If we help Suozzi win, it’ll dent the House Republican majority even further – and depending on how things go in early 2024, could even potentially set the stage for the majority changing hands before we even get to November.
