House Republican James Comer is in trouble

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

It’s still hard to believe that we had someone in politics named James Comey, and he was awful, and he’s gone, and now we have someone named James Comer, and he’s even worse. Comer is the Republican Chair of the House Oversight Committee, which is where the impeachment process has its roots.

To that end it’s been up to Comer to help House Republicans walk the fine line between making it look like they’re impeaching President Joe Biden without actually taking the risk of impeaching Joe Biden. We’ve seen fake procedural moves, fake impeachment hearings, and yet none of it’s been part of any actual impeachment process. It’s also been highly, highly ineffective in terms of public opinion.

Now House Republicans have decided to scapegoat James Comer for the fact that the fake impeachment Biden is playing so poorly. A bunch of them are running to the media to talk about how much they think Comer is doing a terrible job. Of course they’re not putting their names on their comments, because why would they do that? But this kind of public sniping is nonetheless bad for the Republican House.

These House Republicans set out more than a year ago with the goal of making President Biden and the Democrats look bad. Instead, through scandal, extremism, expulsion, and general ineptitude, House Republicans have only served to make themselves and each other look bad. We’ll see if they actually take the House Oversight Committee away from Comer, or if this is all just hot air – as with most things in this Republican House.
