Robert Mueller’s testimony sends House GOP completely over the edge

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s public testimony this morning has been a bit scattered (at one point he referred to Donald Trump as “Trimp”) but what matters is that Mueller is hitting the specific high notes he needed to hit. He confirmed that his report does not exonerate Trump. He confirmed that based on his report, Trump can be criminally charged the minute he’s out of office. Suffice it to say that House Republicans aren’t taking it well.

Some Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee have tried the strategy of generically grandstanding for their entire allotted time, so Robert Mueller can’t say anything incriminating about Donald Trump. Other House Republicans have taken, shall we say, stranger approaches.

Jim Jordan spent the entire time reciting conspiracy theories about a guy named Misfud. John Ratcliffe started babbling about “Democrats and socialists.” Louie Gohmert spent his time asking such a bizarre and incoherent question, Mueller was left to simply say “I take your question” without even trying to answer it. Gohmert also submitted an article for the record which he claimed was evidence in support of his claims. It turns out the article was written by Gohmert himself.

The bottom line is that House Republicans have nothing to throw at Robert Mueller’s findings, beyond the most laughably deranged of far-right conspiracy theories. Thus far the only soundbites that will be widely replayed from this hearing are bad for Donald Trump. The House GOP can’t change that.
