Sarah Huckabee Sanders runs and hides again
A funny thing has happened since CBS News reported that Donald Trump’s White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was planning to resign: even though she denied it, she’s largely been AWOL ever since. The next day she began sharply pulling back on the number of tweets she posted to the @PressSec account. Then she stopped doing press briefings, initially having other members of the Trump regime fill in for her, before giving up on the idea of having press briefings last week at all. Now she’s running and hiding again.
The White House Correspondents’ Association posted this succinct and predictable, yet nonetheless remarkable, tweet this morning: “No White House news briefing today.” No explanation was provided, because at this point we don’t really need one. It’s clear that Huckabee Sanders is no longer comfortable doing the job, and it’s equally clear that Donald Trump’s crashing and burning White House no longer sees a point in sending anyone out there anyway. We all know why.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ vanishing act, the reports of her upcoming resignation, and the cessation of press briefings has all lined up with Donald Trump’s decision to begin kidnapping immigrant kids from their parents and locking them in cages. She’s clearly uncomfortable with it, yet not uncomfortable enough to actually resign in protest over it, which means she doesn’t actually care. Maybe she just knew that these atrocities would make her job harder, and that’s why she’s pulling back from her job duties.
In any case, based on how she’s pulled back from the job, Sarah Huckabee Sanders basically already has quit. She can’t even go to a restaurant anymore without getting thrown out, because the American people have no intention of allowing Donald Trump’s Nazi henchmen off the hook. As far as Trump’s regime, it’s now so far along in its own demise, there’s really no point left in having press briefings anyway.
