Hey stupid…

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump’s people have been actively encouraging him to talk about issues of importance to the American people at his rallies instead of talking like he’s out of his mind. Well, he is, but that’s beside the point. What did Trump do in response to that suggestion? He downplayed the significance of the economy at a rally that was supposed to be about the economy. He said to the attendees: “They say it’s [the economy] the most important subject. I’m not sure it is, but they say it’s the most important subject.” According to pollsters, the economy is the subject voters want to discuss, but Trump is so out of touch he probably thinks it’s his wall.

According to Alternet, Trump (or his people) had planned to run on the economy, crime, and immigration. All three have lost their glow for Trump because Democrats are doing so well. President Biden recently signed an executive order that has slowed migrant crossings to its lowest number since 2021. Biden has also made strides with inflation. Alternet reported that this past Wednesday, inflation slowed to 2.9%, the first time inflation has been below 3% in three years. To make matters worse (for Trump), wage growth is at 3.6%. As for crime, it is at its lowest in decades. The cards are steadily stacking against Donald Trump. As for his own platform, Trump has promised to deport millions of illegal immigrants if he wins the White House, but journalist Eleanor Clift did the research and found that doing so would hurt the economy by creating a void in the labor market and slow productivity, resulting in higher prices. Kamala Harris hopes that her economic plan will do the opposite.

While Harris hasn’t formally released her plan, Reuters reported that she will focus on lowering the cost of groceries and housing and healthcare and shore up the child tax credit. Not only are her plans opposite from Trump’s, but they make more sense. Harris’s plans are obviously more people focused, and why anyone would think Trump cares about people is puzzling. He doesn’t, but Harris does. Hers is the obvious ticket to back if you care about your future. Reuters also reported that the economy is the number one priority for people in 2024, and Harris’s plan is aimed at keeping things level. She wants a federal ban on price gouging, and she will give investigative powers to the FTC for abuses and impose penalties on the food and grocery industry. She also wants to continue fighting for lower drug and housing costs. Her plan is like Biden’s, which was designed to appeal to the middle class. When that was pointed out, one of her aides said: “Same values, different vision.” That’s good news.

President Joe Biden did so much for us as a country. It is a shame that it was all colored by his age. If, however, Kamala Harris is planning the same type of governing, we are in good hands, and the country will continue to flourish. As a bonus, maybe Trump will go to jail, and we’ll be rid of him on both counts (or 34, as the case may be).
