Hey John Bolton, how’s this working out for you?

When the news broke today that Democratic Senators tried to warn then-National Security Adviser John Bolton about a pandemic in 2018, and he blew them off, it got me thinking about Bolton’s place in all of this – not just the pandemic, but how he got here, and the irony of how it’s impacting him.

If John Bolton had shown up to the House impeachment hearings and testified, it would have shifted the landscape to the point where Donald Trump probably would have been ousted. But Bolton wanted to wait, because his upcoming book wasn’t ready yet. Then he ended up not testifying at the Senate impeachment trial either, and Trump was acquitted, freeing Trump up to start murdering us in this pandemic.

The irony is in just how poorly this has all played out for John Bolton. Because he didn’t testify and take Trump down when he had the chance, the Trump regime ended up succeeding in using classification technicalities to delay the release of Bolton’s book, which is now tentatively set to come out in May. Even then, who’s going to buy it? In this climate, is there anyone who’s interested in hearing Bolton spend a whole book bragging about how great of a National Security Adviser he was?

John Bolton gambled and lost, because he cared more about personal profit than he did about the fate of the country he claims to love. As a result, thousands, maybe millions, of Americans will die. And Bolton will likely end up making far less money from his book than he would have if he’d just testified when he had the chance. Bolton has screwed up everything he’s ever touched, so perhaps none of this is surprising.
