Here’s the thing about those new Donald Trump campaign ads on MSNBC

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

If you’ve been watching MSNBC and CNN during prime time this week, you’ve noticed a new and highly unappealing addition: TV ads for the Donald Trump 2020 campaign. These ads seem bizarrely out of place. Few CNN viewers are open to the possibility of voting for Trump, and just about zero MSNBC viewers are open to voting for Trump. Well actually, not literally zero.

Donald Trump’s Twitter rants give away that he flips through the cable news dial during prime time each night. He often attacks CNN host Don Lemon, for instance, while more rarely attacking MSNBC host Rachel Maddow. But the point is that he’s not just watching Fox News and OANN; he’s always narcissistically flipping the dial to see how he’s being covered.

It’s not difficult to parse that the Trump 2020 campaign is running these new primetime ads, which won’t gain Donald Trump any votes, for the sole purpose of making sure Trump sees them. That way he’s lulled into believing that his do-nothing campaign is being aggressive across the board, and his incompetent campaign advisers get to keep their jobs all the way to election day without getting fired.

The more money the Trump 2020 campaign wastes on running expensive TV ads just to snow Donald Trump, the less money the campaign has for other expenditures. So for that reason we should actually welcome the Trump campaign ads on MSNBC.
