Here’s the thing about Donald Trump’s vote total

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. One Palmer Report reader has asked why Trump got more votes this time than last time. This is a good question. The important thing is that Trump got a lower percentage of votes this time. This election was widely billed as the most important of our lifetime, and that ends up prompting a lot of people on both sides to go ahead and vote, even if they’re the type who usually ends up being too lazy to go out and vote for their side.

The fact that Trump got more total votes this time does not mean that he’s more popular now than he was four years ago. All it means is that more of his supporters actually went through with voting this time. A lot more of Trump’s detractors turned out to vote this time too. When you consider that Trump lost the popular vote by three million votes last time, and he’s on track to lose it by six or seven million votes this time, it’s more or less absolute proof that Trump is less popular now than he was four years ago.

It’s an absolute travesty that seventy-something million people voted for this psychotic murderous criminal after seeing him in action for four years. But generally speaking, those people supported him all along. He didn’t gain supporters as he went along; his approval rating makes that clear. This was simply a “turnout” election on both sides, and 2016 wasn’t.
