Here we go again

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump is once again leaking to a major news outlet that he’s strongly considering imminently launching a 2024 presidential campaign. First of all, keep in mind that Trump has been leaking this same thing all year, only to end up not “imminently” doing anything. So in spite of the mainstream media’s ongoing willingness to play stenographer for him, there is no reason to take Trump at his word that he’s actually going to make a campaign announcement this time, after so many previous head fakes.

In any case, the bottom line is this: Trump obviously isn’t really going to be a participant in the 2024 election, for obvious reasons. His mind is so far gone, his handlers are already limiting his public appearances. He’s very likely going to be indicted in Georgia. He’s probably going to end up indicted by the DOJ. So we’re talking about a half senile man trying to “run for President” while also attending bail hearings. It’s just so laughably unrealistic.

Even though Trump won’t really be a 2024 participant, there has always been a chance that he would make a disingenuous 2024 campaign announcement out of desperation at some point in his downfall in 2022 or 2023. If he wants to do that before the midterms, fine, it’ll only help the Democrats.

The Democrats are already trying to make the midterms a referendum on Trump’s toxic unpopularity and the Republican Party’s ongoing ties to him. If Trump announces a phony 2024 campaign before the midterms, then the midterms will totally become a referendum on him.

Trump announcing a supposed 2024 campaign will not keep him from being criminally charged, in Georgia or the DOJ. That is simply not how anything works in the real world, no matter how many clowns on MSNBC and Twitter try to chase ratings by pushing that laugh out loud narrative.

The only way Trump’s faux campaign “announcement” can end up being a bad thing is if you use it as an excuse to hide under your desk and cower, instead of spending these next four months putting in the work of trying to win the midterms. Instead of sitting around fretting, go sign up to volunteer for or donate to the Democrats in these nine key Senate midterm races:
