Here we go…

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The House Select Committee plans to go live during primetime on June 9. Americans will finally get a closer look at the committee’s work and what evidence they have collected to date. Recall earlier that Jim Jordan attempted to evade his subpoena by asking what the committee has on him before he agreed to testify. RawStory shared what it believes the committee already knows about Jim Jordan and lays it out for readers.

On November 6, 2020, Jordan set up a call with William Barr and began pressing Mark Meadows about “pressuring” the governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Wolfe, to audit the results of the election. Just a few days later, Jordan joined a meeting with senior White House officials to come up with a plan to call Biden’s victory “tainted,” including concocting legal arguments and actions. On November 14, 2020, Jordan met with Rudy Giuliani, Trump campaign officials, and other members of Congress to create imaginary problems with the Dominion Voting Systems by linking the company to Hugo Chavez, Nicholas Maduro, and Antifa. No one can say these people don’t have active imaginations, but they seemed to be really reaching. That, however, was not the end of it.

Jordan then met with Trump, Pence, legal advisers, and other lawmakers on December 21, 2020, to come up with a strategy for challenging the January 6, 2021, certification. He then met with Meadows, suggesting that Meadows have Pence object to the certification based on votes he called “unconstitutional,” whatever that meant. On the morning of January 6, 2021, Jordan talked with Trump after lawmakers were evacuated to safety because Trump’s supporters had breached the Capitol. He even referred to what they were doing as a “revolt.” Jim Jordan, you are in big trouble. The committee has given him until June 11 to respond to their request for information.

To make matters worse, CNN reported that every one of the Republicans who texted with Meadows on January 6 said that Trump could have stopped the violence. Yet, he opted not to do so. In fact, it has been reported that Trump “enjoyed” watching the drama as it unfolded. Since the committee is looking at Trump’s behavior as a dereliction of his duty as president of the United States, this is damning. Every one of these people share culpability for what happened that day. Had they merely accepted the inevitable-that Joe Biden won the presidential election-and moved on, all of this could have been prevented. Instead, they chose to get together and scheme about how to keep the duly elected new president from taking office. This unacceptable behavior by Republicans continues to this day.

Perhaps if the House Select Committee can reveal this sordid series of events, we can push this embarrassing, painful episode to the back of our memories. Until they do, Republicans will continue to lie and obfuscate. It is vital that people like Jim Jordan for once do their duty to the American people and tell the truth of what happened that day so that we can all move on. Until they do, the turmoil will continue.
