Here it comes. It’s the start of a new week, and whether any of us are quite ready for it or not, the start of a new Resistance. There’s a lot going on, so I want to briefly address a number of topics in this article as we all try to get our bearings and recalibrate.

First I want to reiterate my earlier call for all of you to take care of yourselves. This is a confounding, tragic turn of events. It’s an emotionally difficult time for all of us. I’m going to need everyone in the Palmer Report community at their fighting weight so we can find some light and score some wins in this darkness. If you need a day off from politics, take it. If you need to give up cable news, do it. If you can’t do politics or social media right now, you always have the option of setting it aside for a day or a week until you’re ready to come back and join the fight.

That said, if you’re still reading this, I presume you’re here to fight. This brings us to some potential red herrings. There’s a lot of talk on social media right now about how we need recounts. Specifically, a bunch of folks are going viral by “sounding the alarm” about how we need to convince the Kamala Harris campaign to demand a recount. But let’s be clear here: Kamala and her campaign are not naive rubes. Quite the opposite. They know far better than you or I do about whether recounts could accomplish anything here in 2024. Let’s keep in mind that for all the resources and attention we poured into recounts in 2016, they accomplished precisely nothing. So I’m only going to get on board with recounts in 2024 if Kamala Harris gets on board with it. Otherwise my focus will be elsewhere.

I also want to warn everyone against these “tear it all down” posts. As a lifelong liberal, I have not always been the biggest fan of the Democratic Party. But here in 2024 the Democratic Party is in the best shape of my lifetime in terms of organizing, fundraising, messaging, ground game, and overall competence. This is such a better political party than it was a decade ago. Remember, we didn’t lose this election. It was stolen from us by the media when they dishonestly forced Biden out of the race and then gave Trump a free pass on his senility and felon status while holding Kamala to an impossible standard the entire time she was in the race. We don’t need to tear down the Democratic Party. We need to tear down the media.

To that end it’s more important than ever that we build Palmer Report into the kind of juggernaut that can directly challenge the mainstream media, so that we can get the truth out there to the public. I’ve started a fund to get this off the ground, and if you’re in a position to contribute, you can do it here. This is off to a promising start, and it tells me that many of you want to keep fighting.

Finally, I’ll end today’s column where it started: take care of yourselves. Your physical and mental health matter to me. So make sure you’ve got the self-care you need, and let’s come together and see just how much we can still accomplish.
