John Fetterman has won the Democratic primary in Pennsylvania. Congratulations John! We must all unite behind him now. This is a very important race that could even determine the balance of power in the Senate.

Fetterman is definitely not your conventional candidate. He has a seemingly endless amount of tattoos (a plus in this writer’s eyes), is known to appear in hoodies and shorts at campaign event, and is relatively quiet at times. Still waters do run deep — the quietest ones are often the wisest.

Fetterman is absolutely not your everyday politician, but I think that adds something — and makes him a tad unique. He had a wide lead, and his winning was not a surprise. Two things in regards to that. As you may know, Fetterman suffered a minor stroke over the weekend. He is projected to make a full recovery.

Some pundits will be attacking him because of an incident that happened many years ago. Fetterman, then the mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania, confronted a jogger of color. He’d reportedly heard gunshots and chased him down, thinking the jogger was the one who had fired off the gun. He was not.

I will not spend a great deal of time on this, but the jogger’s name is Christopher Miyares, and he is okay with Fetterman. In fact, he’s endorsed him. Miyares is in jail right now on charges unrelated to that event and had this to say: “It is inhumane to believe one mistake should define a man’s life. I hope he gets to be a Senator.”

If it is good enough for Miyares it is good enough for me. We have an excellent chance of winning in Pennsylvania but must be united to do so. Let’s unite behind John Fetterman and propel him to victory this November!
