Has Sidney Powell’s “cooperation” forced Rudy Giuliani to flip on Donald Trump?

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Today the January 6th Committee announced that Rudy Giuliani is now fully cooperating. As we’ve already spelled out, this is going to end up being either a massive win or a minor win for the committee, depending on whether Rudy truly understands that he’s firmly on track for prison as part of the DOJ’s ongoing criminal case against him. If Rudy really has concluded that he has to give up Trump in order to keep himself out of prison, it’s worth keeping in mind what may have set all this in motion.

Three weeks ago, Sidney Powell announced through her attorney that she’s “cooperating” with DOJ in its ongoing investigation into 2020 election-related financial fraud. It’s never been entirely clear whether this meant that Powell is “cooperating” in terms of turning over her financial records and trying to prove she didn’t actually break the law, or whether she’s cooperating with the DOJ on its investigations into Trump world in exchange for leniency.

But imagine being Rudy Giuliani and hearing on the news that Sidney Powell has begun cooperating with the DOJ. If Powell really is legitimately cooperating, then she’s surely giving the DOJ the goods on Giuliani in order to save herself. In such case Giuliani’s only move would be to give up the goods on Trump in oder to save himself. This is how these kinds of investigations always play out, when they work.

It would be almost impossible for Giuliani to cooperate with the January 6th Committee without thoroughly incriminating himself in the process. So if Rudy really is cooperating with the committee, then he must have either already decided to cooperate with the DOJ, or already begun cooperating with the DOJ.

Now comes the question of whether Sidney Powell’s announcement that she’s cooperating with the DOJ has forced Rudy Giuliani’s hand to the point that he’s now cooperating as well. When the dominoes do start falling in these kinds of probes, this is precisely how they start falling. One way or the other, more details will soon end up surfacing about Giuliani’s interactions with the January 6th Committee – and that should provide much bigger clues as to who’s cooperating with the DOJ.
