Hakeem Jeffries comes out swinging in wake of Mike Johnson debacle
While a lot of us are dooming over the recent election of Mike Johnson as speaker of the House – an election denier who espouses just about every archaic and destructive belief of his party – a number of you might have missed the speech that House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries made on the floor.
There are those of us who are also considering that the election of Johnson has made it significantly easier to retake the House in 2024 – as many of Johnson’s supporters were from moderate congressional districts – but the speech that was given today clearly makes a distinction between both parties and what they stand for. It’s the kind of messaging that Democrats need, beyond constantly dealing with the GOP’s steady flow of lies.
In his speech, Jeffries instead distanced himself from the election deniers – of which Mike Johnson is one of the most prominent – saying there’s no role for them in the House, while acknowledging that not only did President Biden win in 2020, he’s doing an amazing job under the circumstances, those obvious circumstances being Republican obstruction at every turn, while upholding the Democratic Party as the champions of personal liberty. This is our message that we need to keep repeating as we go into 2024, while the Republicans are making a pretty clear cut case on their own of why they’re an unmanageable clown show.
