GOP Senators go ballistic as Donald Trump’s deranged antics screw up their reelection chances

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Since he caught coronavirus and began taking drugs like dexamethasone, Donald Trump’s behavior has become more erratic and confused than ever. For instance he’s flip flopped on the latest stimulus package so many times in the past few days, no one even seems to know what his position is at this point – including Republican Senators.

After having canceled negotiations entirely, Trump has now apparently decided he wants a roughly $2 trillion dollar stimulus package before the election after all. However, Republican Senators appear to be split on the issue, according to a new expose from Politico. The ones who are currently up for reelection want a stimulus, believing it will boost their personal odds of reelection. But Republican Senators who aren’t currently up for reelection don’t appear to want to spend the money on bailing out working class people, presumably because they’d rather steer it toward the wealthy later on.

That means Trump is already facing a tricky task in keeping all of the Republican Senators happy – and his flip flopping is making them even more antsy. Now Trump is talking about using the stimulus to expand Obamacare, which is absurd considering he’s currently in court trying to gut Obamacare, and this has some GOP Senators even more angry at him.

Two things stand out here. First, these Republican Senators stood by Donald Trump during impeachment, his dishonest handling of the coronavirus, and other awful things. But now that he’s putting their seats and (what they see as) their money at risk, they’re finally pissed off at him. Second, they’re upset enough that they’re leaking this stuff to the media. Of course it’s too late for them to credibly take a stand against Trump this close to the election, and they know it.
