GOP Senator Mike Lee is in real trouble

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Has anyone noticed what’s happening in the state of Utah? It’s a big deal. The Republican Senator there is Mike Lee. And Lee is facing some severe issues in his reelection campaign. Per Business Insider, Lee is squaring off against not one but two primary challengers. And these two challengers have something in common. They want to break ranks with Donald Trump.

This isn’t good news for Lee, who appears bound to the insurrectionist, body, and soul. In a way, this shouldn’t be a surprise. Utah is conservative. There is no doubt about that. But they also differ from some of the other red states.

There is a great deal of Mormons in Utah. And many of them don’t like the divisive campaign rhetoric. Utah is also known to be one of the happiest states in the country. They also have one of the youngest populations. They’re not a state that likes wading into the political swamp.

Even when Trump won Utah, his margin was much lower than in other states. And Lee’s two challengers are calling Lee out on his Trump fealty. One of them is a former Utah State Representative by the name of Becky Edwards. The other is Ally Isom, a former church spokesperson.

Lee’s approval ratings have plummeted in Utah, and many think it’s because of his continued fealty to madman Trump. So what will Lee do? I predict he’ll do nothing even if his alliance with Trump causes him to lose his seat to a primary challenger.

I believe this because Lee must know the risks, and he hasn’t yet done anything. I don’t think this is because he loves Trump. Instead, I think the problem is with Lee. Like most Republicans, perhaps Lee can’t find the courage.

In the end, this lack of courage will be the whole non-party’s undoing. And it is indeed sad when one compares the voiceless impotence of Trump sycophants to the wild and fierce courage and love of country of our friends in Ukraine.
