GOP completely botches response to Mark Robinson scandal

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

I remember growing up studying history in schools that were not told by fanatical Republicans what to teach. So, of course, I learned about it ALL — the good, the bad, and the very ugly. I learned about wars and battles and tragedy and pain. I learned of slavery. As an introspective child, it seemed impossible to me that something called slavery could ever have existed. It seemed it must have happened in another lifetime. Not us, I whispered. Not in America.

Yes, in America, for America had a dark underbelly, a dark underbelly of evil, and I was learning all about it. But thankfully slavery was in the past, and nobody but NOBODY could ever wish to bring it back. Mark Robinson could. As I am sure you’re aware, he is the Republican candidate in the North Carolina governor’s race. And he reportedly expressed his wish that slavery come back and that he’d buy a few.

Of all the things he said, this stunned me the most. Robinson is black, as he involved good ole Clarence Thomas, who seems to be popping up lately on every psychopath’s radar (Judge Cannon, now Robinson). Robinson said people were out to get him., that it was a black lynching. F you, Mark Robinson. Mark Robinson will lose his race. He will also vigorously help Donald Trump lose it. Some Republicans are speaking out. But not enough are, my friends, not enough are.

Why not? This writer has a hypothesis — they can’t. The GOP has firmly fallen into the hands of every alt-right group in politics. No longer can they even comment on things like this. Because, hello, one of their donors might get mad, and Trump might get mad..

So they sit. They sit like useless tree stumps, leaves gone, limbs gone, everything gone, a pitiful bunch of stumps who allowed themselves — their values, their inner cores — to be chopped down with stylistic ease by malevolent psychos who wanted to use the GOP for their nefarious purposes. Some day — some day in the future — children will read all about these stumps — the GOP who imploded wholly and fully because of their own cowardice.
