Good news for Kamala Harris in Arizona

Arizona is one of those states that hasn’t quite turned blue yet, with every election being something of a tossup, despite how clear the distinction is between the two parties in that state alone.

In 2022, Sen. Mark Kelly was up for re-election to a full term and he carried Katie Hobbs and most of her running mates over the finish line. It indicated the state was still competitive, with enough conservative-leaning independents and Republicans disgusted with their own party that they’d be willing to cast their votes for a Blue Dog, centrist-leaning Democrat. In 2024, we got a bit of good news when Rep. Ruben Gallego ran for Kyrsten Sinema’s seat and Cook Political Report rated the race as Lean Democrat, a rating that still holds up today.

Now, we’re getting some more good news in the Grand Canyon state. This weekend, the GOP mayor of Phoenix crossed party lines to endorse Kamala Harris for president, and now the vice president has an even more significant endorsement: a coalition of Arizona’s border-town mayors have come out in support of Vice President Harris over the Biden administration’s successful security policy that has brought crossings to their lowest level since 2019.

It’s time for us to put in the work to not just win but win in a blowout – to make Vice President Harris into Madam President-elect on Nov 5, and to put Rep. Ruben Gallego and House Democrats over the finish line in Arizona.
