Good news for Joe Biden

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Good news came for President Biden via the May jobs report according to the New York Times. 559,000 jobs were added last month, indicating growth of the economy albeit slow. Economists believe the labor market is “sorting itself out” while some employers continue to claim difficulty in finding workers. This number is double the April number, which indicates that we are slowly returning to some semblance of normal, and that gives us hope for the future. Making this news even more positive is the Labor Department’s report that unemployment fell to 5.8%. Economists believe that we may see a bit of “up and down” in the numbers as our economy gets its footing back.

President Biden is reportedly pleased. These numbers reflect his work to date in getting more people vaccinated and his American Rescue Plan. Speaking from Rehoboth Beach, President Biden called the numbers “historic progress,” which he said will pull us out of “the worst crisis it’s been in 100 years.” Of course, there are naysayers who believe these numbers mean little because they fell below predictions; however, President Biden is correct that the numbers show significant progress. Kevin Brady, the top Republican on the Ways and Means Committee, said that President Biden needs to “abandon his attack on American jobs, his tax increases, his anti-growth regulations and his obsession with more emergency spending and endless government checks.” Brady is exaggerating. We have had one stimulus check under President Biden, and the funds he earmarked to help pull children out of poverty were necessary. No one should live in abject property, especially when the very representatives who want to criticize the President make six figures. Republicans do nothing for the American people, but they certainly complain well. They are all for tax breaks—for the wealthy and corporations—both of which added to the deficit through this welfare for corporations and the wealthy. As MSN reported, “president” Trump added $8 trillion (plus) to America’s debt in his first term. Conversely, President Obama, who inherited the worst recession since the great depression, added $9 trillion in his entire eight years in office. Who is the deficit breaker?

Republicans never look at numbers, other than those going into their and their wealthy friends’ pockets. They are accusing people of not going back to work because they are making more on unemployment and are cutting off federal aid. According to economists, however, there is no evidence that this is true. Economists believe that it is far more likely that school closures and childcare is keeping many out of work, as well as the number of people who remain unvaccinated. In a blog post Friday morning, Cecilia Rouse, chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, wrote: “It is too soon to conclude that labor supply issues are holding back the long-term path of the recovery.” Regardless of the tales Republicans like to spin, the bulk of the American people want to work, and that is happening. Don’t believe the hype: President Biden is doing a stellar job.
