Good news for Democratic candidates in five key House races

President Kamala Harris is going to need a House and Senate majority in order to do things like pass legislation and make appointments. We’re working on keeping the Senate majority. But now there’s some interesting news on the House majority front.

California is an overwhelmingly blue state, but that’s not true of every district in California. Some of the suburban-to-rural districts in California are very moderate places, thus making for some very close House races. To that end, of the twenty-four House races currently rated “toss up” by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, five of them are in California. It’s easy to see how these five races are going to play a crucial role in deciding the House majority.

There has been very little professional polling thus far in 2024 House races, but now we’re finally getting some data. Suffice it to say that it’s good news. New polling from CSULB has Democratic House candidate Adam Gray ahead by one point, Democratic House candidate Rudy Salas ahead by three points, and Democratic House candidate Derek Tran ahead by two points. New polling from USC has Democratic House candidate George Whitesides ahead by one point, and Democratic House candidate Will Rollins tied in his race.

In other words the Democrats are slightly ahead in four of the five “toss up” House races in California, and tied in the fifth race. This means the Democrats have a clear leg up in the state, with the Republicans not being able to claim a lead in any of the five races. But with polling less reliable than ever, and these leads all rather small, it means we have to roll up our sleeves and make sure we win these five races.

To that end, let’s all strongly get behind these five Democratic House candidates in California right now. Remember, you can donate to these races no matter which state you live in. You can also sign up to volunteer remotely for these campaigns. So let’s dive in:
