Donald Trump tries calling in to live golf tournament broadcast and it blows up in his face

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. Yesterday, PGA champion golfer Rory McIlroy said that while he golfed with Donald Trump in 2017, he’ll never golf with him again, because he’s so offended by Trump’s flippant response to the coronavirus crisis. This is a big deal, because golfers and golf fans tend to skew Republican.

Trump tried to fix things today by calling in and speaking with announcer Mike Tirico during a live broadcast of a charity golf tournament. Trump emphasized the fact that he and Tirico have played golf together in the past; Trump was apparently betting on Tirico not wanting to use a live broadcast to say something like what McIlroy had said. Instead, Tirico went a different and more devastating direction.

After Trump pointed out that he and Tirico used to golf together, Tirico said “you’re a good putter, knock it to kick-in distance often.” For those not familiar with the golfing reference, Tirico was accusing him cheating by kicking the ball closer to the hole. As USA Today points out, Tirico previously accused Trump of picking up Tirico’s ball and throwing it in a bunker while he wasn’t looking.

So this blew up in Donald Trump’s face. Yesterday the headlines in the golfing world were that popular winner Rory McIlroy is now condemning his former golfing buddy Trump. Today the headlines in the golfing world are that popular announcer Mike Tirico is accusing Trump of being a cheater. This isn’t exactly going well for him.
