Donald Trump goes dark
Yesterday morning, Donald Trump had one of his most infamous early-morning Twitter outbursts to date, which included his first-ever attack on Stormy Daniels, among other things. Palmer Report noted yesterday that, based on the retweets that took place just minutes before his outburst and some other factors, we weren’t entirely sure he even wrote the attack on Daniels. So it’s notable what’s happened since.
This morning Trump’s Twitter account went dark entirely, with no early-morning rant for the first time in quite some time. When Trump does go dark like this, it’s rare, and it’s usually a sign that he’s flustered because he thinks his scandals are about to get worse for him than usual. His Twitter account finally did come alive at 10:45am eastern time today, which is a time of day that he almost never tweets anything. We’re not convinced he wrote that pair of tweets either, as words like “charade” aren’t in his typical vocabulary.
This afternoon, Trump’s Twitter account has seen a couple of generic posts including an event announcement and a thank you to local officials, but these are typically posted by Trump’s social media handlers. He then posted an endorsement for Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn’s reelection campaign, and we doubt that would have been posted unless Trump agreed to it, but again, the verbiage doesn’t sound like his.
So the bottom line is this: in the midst of a week which is eating him alive, with the Michael Cohen case moving forward in court, and Sean Hannity having been dragged into it, Donald Trump’s Twitter patterns have become strange to say the least. He went dark entirely this morning. Yesterday’s morning rant didn’t appear to come from him. Is Trump’s head even in the game anymore? Are his staffers trying to keep up appearances while he hides under his desk? Stay tuned, because something is off here.
