Go to hell, Donald Trump

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

“President” Donald J. Trump continues to be out of control, while the mostly silent and feckless GOP leadership stands by and witnesses the shit show that is the presidency. The phrase “new low” is often used to describe the latest actions of the occupant of the White House.

On Tuesday morning, Trump continued to stoop to whatever level he is now at, tweeting: “So some day, if a Democrat becomes President and the Republicans win the House, even by a tiny margin, they can impeach the President, without due process or fairness or any legal rights. All Republicans must remember what they are witnessing here – a lynching. But we will WIN!”

Maybe he took a look at the language of then-nominee Clarence Thomas, who called the Senate’s investigation of the Anita Hill allegations a “high-tech lynching” or otherwise thinks it will resonate with his base and his fellow Republicans.

Regardless of what his inspiration is, his use of a horrific, racial crime to describe what he is undergoing is disgusting. The man has no decency, no shame, no sense of what is appropriate.

Sadly, his cult will likely start to normalize the language and defend it. But at least one conservative, Erick Erickson, has responded, tweeting this morning: “It is not a lynching. Let’s not start dropping words that are important with real historic meaning where we water them down to nothing.”

Kudos to Erickson for tweeting this. Hopefully many other conservatives will respond in similar fashion. We went from “witch hunt” to “a lynching” and yet, for the most part, the Republicans will do nothing or say nothing. Let’s hope more have the courage and spine to speak out against this reprehensible comparison.
