GET OVER IT
Sometimes it’s truly difficult to believe there could exist, in his beautiful world of ours, such cruelty, such extreme callousness. We don’t WANT to believe that in a country of so many different people, so many strangers, each with their own stories, some of the stories are of hatred and evil.
Unfortunately, these stories exist, and one of the people to whom I refer is, of course, the insurrection whisperer, as I have dubbed him. Donald Trump does not know the meaning of the word empathy. I often wonder if he’s ever felt, at any time, even one iota of compassion for anyone.
The answer to that question, I believe, is no, not at all. He provided it to us the other day in Iowa. This past week, tragedy struck in Iowa as a gunman opened fire in Perry High School, killing one and wounding many others.
It was a tragedy. It was barely covered in the media. That’s how desensitized this country has become to gun violence.
But the insurrection whisperer did bring it up while speaking in Iowa the other day! What he said is one of the best examples of callousness in one who walks among us. Trump told Iowans they must “get over” the shooting. GET OVER IT? It JUST happened!
I suppose for Donald Trump, little children being gunned down does not mean the same thing that it means to us. “It’s just horrible,” Trump said at the rally, referring to the shooting. Then he shifted tone. “But we have to get over it; we have to move forward.”
Nobody ever “gets over” a school shooting you ignoramus. But then again, someone born without empathy for anyone would not know that. We, the people of America, lose something each time a shooting takes place.
And in as much as WE lose, the families – the friends — of these shootings see their lives turned into nightmares. For the ones left behind, one suspects they will never “get over it.”
Losing someone you love is not something to “get over.” One may learn to live with it, but that is not the same thing. When I first heard about this, I said to myself, “Don’t cover it.” It’s so vile, do NOT cover it.”
But it is stories like this that must be covered. They serve to remind people of the hate, the fury, and the heartlessness of many. One person born without compassion is Wayne LaPierre, the CEO of the national rifle association, who just announced his resignation this week.
Another of those strangers with icicles where their soul should be is Donald Trump. Telling anyone to “get over” a school shooting is akin to a slap in the face.
Trump is one of those strangers who walks among us, someone that we can’t know or begin to understand because we do not hold hate in our hearts; WE have souls. And we will use our souls to continue to educate people on the need for gun reform.
