State Department official George Kent testifies against Donald Trump

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

You’ve probably never heard of George Kent before today. But that’s okay, because you may have never heard of Marie Yovanovitch and Fiona Hill before last week, and their testimony to the House impeachment inquiry has turned out to be crucial to Donald Trump’s downfall. So who is George Kent, and why is his testimony important?

George Kent is the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in charge of Ukraine policy, which is a long winded way of saying that he’s one of the highest ranking Trump regime officials to testify in the impeachment inquiry to date. We don’t know precisely what he’s saying behind closed doors right now, though some details of his testimony will likely start to leak out tonight. In the meantime, two major media reports about Kent give major clues about where this is headed.

First there’s the New York Times report that as far back as March of this year – seven months ago – George Kent was warning people at the State Department about Rudy Giuliani’s Ukraine antics. Specifically, Kent was accusing Giuliani of spreading “disinformation” about everyone from the Bidens to Marie Yovanovitch. This is a big deal, because if Kent says this to the House impeachment inquiry today, it’ll mean a high ranking Trump administration official will be confirming that the Biden scandal is fake.

Additionally there’s the tidbit from Politico that the Trump White House ordered George Kent not to testify today, so the House subpoenaed him, and he showed up to testify. This is the latest evidence that the floodgates are open, and Donald Trump can no longer stop his own people from selling him out. Tomorrow an even higher ranking State Department official, Michael McKinley – who just resigned in protest of Mike Pompeo’s antics – is set to testify.
