Gavin Newsom makes his move
Have you ever seen the show American Horror Story? It was a creepy show to be sure, but lately, I have been associating that series with the GOP. And why not? Are they not a carnival of freaks, an unhinged circus act featuring horrifying and archaic ideas, some of them just plain creepy? I think so.
Take the terrifying Texas abortion law, which the Supreme Court declined to halt. It is a law from the dark ages, created by insolent Stepford men, carnival barkers who would happily see women reduced to mere objects. But ONE good thing has come of this awful legislation. We might be able to turn the tables where gun safety is concerned.
Have you noticed the recent coverage of school shootings? I doubt it because there has BEEN little coverage. Murder has become just an average day in the schoolyard. And this should not be. So Governor Gavin Newsom is doing something about it. Newsom wanted a bill in California that was modeled after the Texas abortion law. It would seem he’s found it.
This bill would let people file litigation against illegal firearms traffickers. It is called SB 1327 Here is more of what the bill does: It will allow “private residents to sue any person who manufactures, distributes, and transports imported illegal weapons.”
And California’s state legislature has just passed the bill. Thanks, Supreme Court! Now undoubtedly, outraged Republicans will attempt to get this legislation stopped. I doubt it will work, though — for now.
And we must commend Governor Newsom for his clever thinking and for holding people accountable. Gun violence is one of the most critical issues facing our nation today — yet another issue Republicans close their eyes to.
