Fulton County DA criminal probe into Donald Trump expands as more subpoenas begin flying
In recent days, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has sent grand jury subpoenas or target letters to a number of people involved in Donald Trump’s criminal plot to overthrow the 2020 election results in the state. Now she has even more subpoenas flying.
DA Willis has also subpoenaed House Republican Jody Hice, according to multiple major news outlets. Hice is attempting to fight the subpoena in court. But unlike congressional subpoenas, which can seemingly drag out in court forever, the courts tend to settle any legal battles over grand jury subpoenas rather swiftly.
Two things stand out about the Hice subpoena. First, he recently ran (and lost) in the Republican primary race for Georgia Secretary of State. So DA Willis clearly isn’t shying away from subpoenaing hostile political candidates. Willis has reportedly previously had Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger testify, but they’re not accused of any wrongdoing. Hice appears to have been in on Trump’s plot to at least some extent.
The second interesting thing here is that while the Jody Hice subpoena news is surfacing today because he’s announced that he’s filed an appeal, the court filing says he actually received the subpoena on Friday. This points to DA Willis having sent out another round of grand jury subpoenas on Friday. So now we wait to see if others were also included in this new round of subpoenas. Tick tock.
