Donald Trump is having a really bad Friday the 13th
If Friday the 13th were bringing us bad luck during the Trump era, would we even know the difference? As difficult of a time as America is having under Donald Trump, suffice it to say that Trump is having an even worse go of it. Today was yet another reminder that, for all his chest pounding and bravado, he’s in a very precarious place – and today may have been one of his worst days to date.
If you want a sense of just how defensive Donald Trump has become, and how badly this day would end up going for him, consider that he started it off with this Twitter rant about the former Director of the FBI: “James Comey is a proven LEAKER & LIAR. Virtually everyone in Washington thought he should be fired for the terrible job he did-until he was, in fact, fired. He leaked CLASSIFIED information, for which he should be prosecuted. He lied to Congress under OATH. He is a weak and untruthful slime ball who was, as time has proven, a terrible Director of the FBI. His handling of the Crooked Hillary Clinton case, and the events surrounding it, will go down as one of the worst “botch jobs” of history. It was my great honor to fire James Comey!” As a result, “slime ball” ended up trending on Twitter. Then things got worse for Trump.
Last night, the attorney for Stormy Daniels tweeted that Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen had arranged a financial payoff and an abortion for a major Republican Party donor. Sure enough, that story proved true today, as the identity of the the GOP donor was revealed as Republican National Committee deputy chairman Elliott Broidy, who then resigned. This ties Cohen (and Trump) to Broidy, who in turn is tied to George Nader, who is already a cooperating witness for Robert Mueller. Oh, and the U.S. Attorney’s office confirmed that Michael Cohen is indeed under criminal investigation, in case there was any remaining doubt.
By the middle of the afternoon, Donald Trump was reduced to tweeting this: “DOJ just issued the McCabe report – which is a total disaster. He LIED! LIED! LIED! McCabe was totally controlled by Comey – McCabe is Comey!! No collusion, all made up by this den of thieves and lowlifes!” Did he just call the FBI a bunch of thieves and lowlifes? “McCabe is Comey” sounds like it could be the plot of a bad Deep Space Nine episode. Does Trump even understand who he’s ranting about anymore? In any case, he knows he’s in trouble. Happy Friday the 13th!
