Robert Mueller busts up alleged criminal plot to frame him
Late last night there was buzz on social media that we would see accusations of sexual harassment against Special Counsel Robert Mueller today. Instead we’re seeing something very different playing out. A woman has come forward to allege that pro-Trump operative Jack Burkman offered her $20,000 to falsely accuse Mueller of sexual harassment.
Robert Mueller has referred the matter to the FBI for investigation. Remarkably, the middleman involved in the payout offer claimed he worked for a company named Surefire Intelligence, which has since been traced back to pro-Trump activist Jacob Wohl, who was one of the people insisting that a “scandalous” story about Mueller was about to drop. Since the news broke, Wohl has posted several tweets denying the existence of any such scheme.
There are a couple of things that stand out here. First, if these allegations against Burkman and Wohl prove to be true, they’d both be looking at prison for it. That would mean two more of Donald Trump’s sycophants going to prison, joining Michael Cohen, Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn, Rick Gates, George Papadopoulos, and others. Second, this urgent desperation to smear Mueller strongly suggests that Trump’s biggest supporters are expecting Mueller to drop the hammer on Trump very soon.
Finally, there’s the question of whether Donald Trump and/or anyone whole officially on his team might have been involved in this alleged plot to smear Robert Mueller. For instance, Trump himself has previously retweeted Wohl. Just how far up the chain might this whole thing go? It looks like the FBI is about to find out.
