Donald Trump’s worsening Fox News problem
While much has been said about the constant outflow of workers leaving the White House, there hasn’t been as much publicity given to Republicans leaving their party or speaking out against Donald Trump. If one were to watch a good deal of Fox News, whether for the laughs or simply being a masochist, they would have noticed that over the past year Ralph Peters was much less prominently utilized by the station over the past year. Peters, a retired United States Military Lieutenant Colonel, and author, had been working as an expert commentator for Fox over the past decade.
In a recent article penned by Peters, he called out Fox for its propaganda and lies in covering Donald Trump and Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Trump-Russia conspiracy against the United States. Peters said, “Four decades ago, I took an oath as a newly commissioned officer. I swore to ‘support and defend the Constitution,’ and that oath did not expire when I took off my uniform. Today, I feel that Fox News is assaulting our constitutional order and the rule of law, while fostering corrosive and unjustified paranoia among viewers. Over my decade with Fox, I long was proud of the association. Now I am ashamed.” Calling out Fox as a “propaganda machine” is quite the statement.
Peters also went into detail, explaining how as the Mueller investigation ramped up in intensity, he was no longer being asked to contribute, despite being “the one person on the Fox payroll who, trained in Russian studies and the Russian language, had been face to face with Russian intelligence officers in the Kremlin and in far-flung provinces.”
While it’s refreshing to see someone like Peters put country over party and call out Fox for their lies and spreading of propaganda, we must ask why others aren’t fleeing in droves from such a deceitful company. Hopefully when Mueller slaps the handcuffs on Trump and Fox is shut down we can finally attempt to end the brainwashing that has afflicted so many of our neighbors.
