If you ever wonder why certain people in the Trump administration manage to get sympathetic puff pieces written about them, it’s not difficult to parse. These people are sources of information, and mainstream media want to be on the receiving end of that information, so they do what they can to butter them up.

Take, for instance, today’s new Politico article about Hope Hicks. The whole thing reads like something that her mother would write about her. It’s not difficult to figure out that Politico is trying to get or remain on her good side by publishing this sycophantic crap. Plenty of other major news outlets are guilty of the same thing, of course, and they’re usually best ignored entirely. But this particular puff piece is notable in how badly it swings and misses.

This article reveals that Hope Hicks played a key role in talking Donald Trump into going on television and giving his infamous Oval Office address about the coronavirus outbreak. If you recall, it was a complete disaster. Trump came off as lifeless, clueless, and the opposite of presidential.

In other words, Hicks has played an important role in Donald Trump’s utter failure in this crisis. Again, this joke of an article was written in order to pander to her. News outlets know that puff pieces like this about horrible people are going to be widely mocked. It’s the price they pay for access. The question is whether Hicks will even think this particular puff piece makes her look good, because it certainly doesn’t.
