Donald Trump isn’t fooling anyone with his latest flaming bag of crap

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Tonight, Donald Trump did exactly what we all knew he would do: he caved and he failed. Trump had threatened unrealistic tariffs against Mexican goods unless Mexico made something unrealistic happen with immigration within a ridiculously short amount of time. Mexico then predictably took no action, because there was no action to take, and everyone knew Trump was bluffing anyway. Now, up against a deadline and with his bluff having been called, Trump is simply pretending that he won.

Tonight, Trump posted this tweet: “I am pleased to inform you that The United States of America has reached a signed agreement with Mexico. The Tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the U.S. on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended. Mexico, in turn, has agreed to take strong measures to stem the tide of Migration through Mexico, and to our Southern Border. This is being done to greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States. Details of the agreement will be released shortly by the State Department. Thank you!”

To be clear, there is no evidence that Mexico is taking any steps of any kind, or that it’s made any concessions of any kind. And really, there was no reason for Mexico to even try to appease Trump. After all, he was threatening the kind of across the board tariffs that would have sent the U.S. economy hurtling downward, thus obliterating any small chance he might still have of reelection.

But Trump is nonetheless claiming that Mexico made concessions that it didn’t make, so he can claim victory. No one outside his own braindead base will buy into this tomorrow – and even a few of them might see through something this asininely pointless and transparent. This whole thing was a flaming bag of crap from the start. Trump can’t change that with a tweet full of wishful thinking. He failed – yet again.
