Donald Trump’s flameout is fully underway
Palmer Report pointed out on Friday that Donald Trump’s behavior had taken a turn which suggested that he’d finally concluded he wasn’t going to win the election. He’d abandoned all pretense of a reelection strategy, in favor of flipping over the chess board and hoping the pieces somehow magically landed in his favor. We also pointed out that Trump is generally never a man of action, and that his ensuing flameout could still end up being more of a whimper than a bang.
On Sunday, we got a closer look at what Donald Trump’s “flameout” looks like. For reasons that had to be masochistic and couldn’t have been coincidence, he spent a decent chunk of his press briefing talking about getting “aroused.” He repeatedly pretended a female reporter was shouting when she was in fact speaking at a normal volume. He accused another reporter of going senile.
Trump’s display on Sunday was a fully dimwitted attempt at being a sadistic smart aleck. All the dastardliness was there of a guy who doesn’t think he can win and has stopped caring and really wants to stick it to everyone, but with only half the mental competence to pull it off. It’s as if Trump wants to give us the middle finger and storm off, but he’s just senile enough that he can’t quite remember which is the middle one.
Of course Donald Trump could still catch a lucky break as this election goes on, so it’s more important than ever that we be vigilant and try to run up the score on behalf of Joe Biden. That way, any last minute fluke won’t be enough to put Trump over the top. But at this point it’s difficult to imagine Trump doing anything other than continuing to flame out in increasingly halfwitted fashion as this goes on.
