Yesterday the Donald Trump administration tried to sell us the laugh-out-loud narrative that Special Counsel Robert Mueller had fully cleared Jared Kushner of any wrongdoing after their recent interview about the Trump-Russia scandal. Now Mueller is firing back at Trump in surprisingly blunt fashion, making clear that when it comes to taking down the Trump cartel, he’s just getting started.

Robert Mueller never speaks directly to the public. Instead, whenever Team Trump has made a false claim about his investigation, or whenever he’s felt the need to make certain information public, he’s done it through court filings. For the most part he’s used the upcoming Paul Manafort trial, which is already a slam dunk case, to introduce new tidbits of information about the overall Trump-Russia scandal into the public domain. This time around he used a different court case to say what he felt needed said.

Several major news outlets are suing to gain access to Robert Mueller’s various warrants. This is an inexcusably reckless and selfish move on the part of these news outlets, who are knowingly trying to put the sanctity of the investigation at risk for a bit of juicy source material. This case is going to get thrown out, of course. But Mueller decided today to use that civil suit to make a court filing declaring that there are still “multiple lines of non-public inquiry” going on in his investigation.

In other words, so much for the Donald Trump administration’s claim yesterday that Robert Mueller had magically cleared Jared Kushner, and its implication that this was a sign Mueller is wrapping up his investigation into the Trump-Russia scandal. Mueller is clearly just getting started when it comes to taking down Trump and his people, and he wants to make sure everyone out there knows it.
