FINISH HIM
It’s still not entirely clear if Donald Trump was strategically trying to turn our stomachs last night so we’d be too sick to keep fighting and give up, or if he was just throwing a tantrum with no real eye on the consequences. Either way, the question was how we were going to respond to it. Would we finally break, or would we become more resolved than ever to break him?
Here’s one measurement: the Joe Biden campaign announced that the hour after the debate was the best fundraising hour it’s ever had. This suggests that Trump’s strategy – if it was a strategy at all – backfired on him. Instead of making you too sick of politics to keep fighting against him, Trump’s debate performance motivated you to send more of your money to Joe Biden than ever.
This is important, because more money for Biden translates to more TV ads in the closing stretch, greater reach into borderline swing states, and more down ballot support. It’s also important because it’s an indicator that you’re more willing than ever to do what it takes to finish Trump off. The next step is to spend these final five weeks phone banking, volunteering, and making sure the people around you are willing and able to vote. Let’s get to work and finish this!
