Finally, good news out of Texas

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

It seems we (finally) have good news for the women of Texas. A judge has ruled AGAINST the unconstitutional Texas abortion bill. In her ruling, this judge says the state cannot prosecute women who have complications with their pregnancies. She also said these women are allowed to seek abortions and called the Texas law “unconstitutional.”

She also said this law puts the fear of God into doctors about doing anything to help women with troublesome pregnancies. And she issued a temporary injunction barring the state from enforcing these aspects of the law.

This all comes about after a group of women sued the Texas Government, alleging just this. The Judge has ruled in their favor. Pro-choice groups are very happy, calling the decision a win.

Now I do realize this is just one aspect of this despicable law and that the decision is likely to be appealed. But we need to celebrate this news. It seems forever — FOREVER — that ANY good news has come out of Texas for women. Since this beastly law went into effect, there has been thick fear on the part of women — and their doctors. This helps a lot, as Nancy Northup, CEO of the center for reproductive tights, just said.

“Today’s ruling should prevent other Texans from suffering the unthinkable trauma our plaintiffs endured.” So thank you to this Judge. Of course, given how much republican men despise women, they will almost certainly cry foul and appeal because what’s a dangerous pregnancy to them? But for now — there are a whole lot of Texas women who can sleep more easily tonight.
