Donald Trump finally figures out he’s going down
Those who have been paying particularly close attention have known that Donald Trump’s “presidency” was ultimately doomed since the minute he was illegitimately named the winner. Those paying more casual attention have finally figured out this week what the rest of us have known for awhile: he’s so boxed in by his own criminal scandals, he’s finished one way or the other. The question over the past few days has been whether Trump understands he’s going down. Now we’re getting our answer.
Donald Trump is now telling the people around him that he does indeed fear he’ll be impeached, according to a new report from CNN. Why does this matter? House Democrats aren’t going to start the impeachment process unless they’re sitting on enough evidence that they can actually finish him off and oust him, and even Trump surely understands that. So if he’s now worried that they are going to impeach him, it means he thinks they’ve got him nailed.
This is important because, as we’ve explained, Robert Mueller and the House Democrats are pursuing a strategy that involves getting Donald Trump to figure out that he’s out of options. Right now they’re setting it up so that he’ll be arrested and indicted the minute he’s no longer president, and they’re making sure he knows it. If he’s impeached and removed this year, he’ll then be arrested. If he tries to drag things out and somehow finishes his term, he’ll then be arrested.
This leaves Donald Trump with only one option: negotiate his swift and peaceful resignation in exchange for some degree of federal criminal leniency, and then once he’s out of office, he’ll have to take his chances on state level criminal charges in New York. But this requires getting it through Trump’s thick skull that his life is 100% over if he doesn’t negotiate a resignation deal. So it’s significant that, just two felonies in, Trump has already figured out he’s going to be impeached. Wait til he soon learns he’s facing dozens if not hundreds of felony charges.
