House Democrats just nailed Corey Lewandowski on a felony

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

It took all of a few seconds to see that today’s Corey Lewandowski testimony in front of the House Judiciary Committee was going to be an absurd farce. By the halfway point, Palmer Report explained that Lewandowski’s uncooperative nature was a big help in the Democrats’ legal battle to compel cooperative testimony from key players going forward. But the second half of Lewandowski’s testimony may have been even more useful.

The Mueller report spells out that Corey Lewandowski, along with a whole lot of other people, criminally conspired with Donald Trump commit felony obstruction of justice. Because Mueller inexplicably declined to charge anyone with obstruction, it’s not clear whether or not Trump’s people will be indicted for it once Trump is gone. For that matter, conspiracy to obstruct justice is something of a challenge to prove in court, when you’re applying the charge to an underling like Lewandowski, who can argue he was simply following orders. But there’s a much easier charge to make stick: felony perjury.

This afternoon, Democratic Congressman Lou Berrea got Corey Lewandowski to say that he knew nothing about the Russians contacting anyone in the Trump campaign. But the Mueller report spells out that George Papadopoulos sent an email to Lewandowski about his meeting with a Russian intermediary. Lewandowski just got caught lying, in provable fashion. This means he’ll face a perjury indictment the minute Trump is gone.

If Corey Lewandowski has any sense at all, he’ll cut a plea deal against Trump now. But he doesn’t seem to be that bright, so he’ll likely hold out for a mythical Trump pardon. Good luck with that, as Donald Trump has consistently allowed his underlings to face trial and rot in prison, as opposed to sticking his neck out by trying to pardon them. Lewandowski is going to prison unless he wises up and sells Trump out.
