GOP trips over itself as Donald Trump falls down
The Republican Party is currently in a state of confusion and desperation. While most Americans wake up every morning worrying about what Donald Trump is tweeting about, the GOP members must be terrified to see who Trump has attacked most recently. Following his recent attacks on Special Counsel Robert Mueller, several prominent Republicans spoke out against it, while failing to actually do anything. The most vocal Republican voices against Trump’s Twitter tirades are those that have already declared they would not run for reelection, such as Jeff Flake and Trey Gowdy.
Another Republican, Lindsey Graham, has repeatedly said that if Trump ends the Special Counsel’s investigation into Trump-Russia, it would be the beginning of the end for Trump. But on other occasions, Graham has been a proponent of the appointment of a second Special Counsel to investigate Mueller. Watching Graham go back and forth to such polarizing positions has been interesting to say the least.
Some suspect that Graham is being blackmailed, which is not that hard to fathom. It’s well known that the DNC was hacked and their emails were shared through Wikileaks. Many believe that the RNC was also hacked, and that those emails were used for a different purpose. By keeping that information private, whoever possesses that knowledge could use it to blackmail GOP members into doing Trump’s bidding. It certainly seems that many Republicans in Congress are acting much differently than they have in the past.
It appears that Republicans are caught in the middle of this and do not want to upset Donald Trump’s shrinking base while also not wanting to be remembered as being on the wrong side of history when Trump ultimately goes down. They clearly know something big is coming and Trump’s traitorous regime will not last until 2020. But they cannot have it both ways – they are either for democracy or they’re all-in for protecting Trump. Either way, America will remember.
