Donald Trump’s “Fake News Awards” turned out to be fake news
Donald Trump promised us that he would announce the “Fake News Awards” in some kind of ceremony or presentation. He told us precisely when it was going to happen. He got our hopes up that he would find a whole new way to embarrass himself, and thus further erode his own already-microscopic credibility, by handing out these ludicrous awards. He even got our hopes up that we might win one. Now it turns out the “Fake News Awards” are fake news.
The idiocy began back in early January, when Trump tweeted “I will be announcing THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR on Monday at 5:00 o’clock. Subjects will cover Dishonesty & Bad Reporting in various categories from the Fake News Media. Stay tuned!” But then something changed, and just one day before he was supposed to hand out the awards, he decided that he needed to postpone them. Once again, he laid out a specific timeframe.
Trump’s follow up tweet informed us that “The Fake News Awards, those going to the most corrupt & biased of the Mainstream Media, will be presented to the losers on Wednesday, January 17th, rather than this coming Monday. The interest in, and importance of, these awards is far greater than anyone could have anticipated!” Well guess what, kids. It’s Wednesday, January 17th, and the business day is over, and there are no Fake News Awards. Instead, his people are making specific excuses to try to tamp down expectations.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced earlier today that Donald Trump’s “Fake News Awards” were now merely a potential event that might or might not end up happening. So now, not only is Trump so far gone that he’s making up imaginary awards shows and setting specific dates and times for when he’ll hand out the awards he’s made up, he’s so far gone that his own staff can’t even figure out if he’s going to go through with it. This man needs a straitjacket. Update: Trump has finally posted his Fake News Awards. Sort of.
