Looks like Rudy Giuliani really is trying to negotiate Donald Trump’s exit
Last week Rudy Giuliani announced that he was Donald Trump’s new criminal defense attorney in the Russia scandal, and promised to bring the investigation to an end within a week or two. At the time, Palmer Report asked if Giuliani had simply gone off the deep end, or if he was really looking to bring about Trump’s swift exit from office before the Trump-Russia scandal could blow back on Giuliani. Now we’re seeing evidence that Giuliani really does want Trump gone.
It turns out Rudy Giuliani’s first official move as Donald Trump’s new “attorney” is to reopen discussions with Special Counsel Robert Mueller about Trump testifying in the scandal. Remarkably, Mueller is actually going along with Giuliani on the negotiations about the testimony, according to the Washington Post. Here’s the thing: neither Mueller nor Giuliani is stupid.
Giuliani – who has a background as a former prosecutor – knows full well that if Trump sits down for an interview with Mueller, his presidency is over. If Trump lies about the Trump-Russia scandal, that’s an easily provable felony, and Mueller will nail him for it. If Trump tries to impress Mueller by telling him the truth about his crimes, then Mueller has him nailed that way. Yet it’s now clear that Giuliani joined Trump’s legal team for the specific purpose of trying to get Trump to testify for Mueller.
In other words, Rudy Giuliani is trying to quickly destroy what’s left of Donald Trump’s presidency. He’s trying to feed Trump to the lions as swiftly as possible. Either Rudy already cut a plea deal and he’s doing this on Robert Mueller’s behalf, or Rudy is simply trying to put Trump out of his misery. If Trump is ousted, his criminal antics will still be investigated and prosecuted. Rudy seems to be hoping that Trump’s ouster would cool off the investigations into Trump’s co-conspirators like Rudy.
