Now what? Melania Trump has spent the past several weeks making a point of snubbing and humiliating her husband Donald Trump at every turn, even while never officially speaking out against him, since the Stormy Daniels affair and coverup became public. Now she’s going so far as to feed the media stories about how she’s unhappy and she wants out. Melania is running out of next steps before getting to the final step, so let’s talk about what’s coming.
Now that Melania has gone so far as to have her friends feed the narrative to Us Magazine that she wants out of the marriage, there aren’t many more steps she can take. The next would be speaking up against Donald in her own voice, which would be a catastrophic blow to Donald’s already-failing presidency. It would also all but force Melania to make the decision to go ahead and try to leave.
We don’t know what their prenup looks like. We don’t know for sure how Donald’s affairs would impact it. We know Donald Trump is bitterly vindictive enough to go after custody of Barron as a way of trying to punish Melania, but we don’t know if he’d want to bother. There’s also the fact that Melania knows where all his bodies are buried, which could prompt Donald to simply let her and Barron leave without a fight. However, we’ve also consistently seen that whatever Donald’s true net worth may be, he’s far too leveraged and cash-poor to be able to give Melania a divorce settlement of any meaningful size.
Melania Trump is continuing to up the ante by inching ever closer to actually speaking out against Donald Trump. If she keeps down this path much longer, she’ll end up at the point of no return. Even if you couldn’t care less about their marriage, its unraveling has major and immediate political implications on Trump’s dying presidency.
