Here’s what has to change for us to win
The presidential election is a side note this fall. Every other election matters more. The only way we change things is by taking back the senate and keeping the house this November. You must vote in every local and state election as well. We cannot stop the gerrymandering and the abuses locally until this happens. Even, if by some miracle, we pull it together enough to vote Trump out, if we don’t take the senate, we’re screwed. If we don’t take governorships and state houses and state senates, we’re screwed.
Anyone who believes that the events of the last few days will cost the republicans any votes are fooling themselves. The republicans in the senate did exactly what the republican voters put them in office to do – maintain their power. Republican voters do not care about whatever dirty politics are played, they do not care about treason, they do not care about the laws of this country.
What they care about is forcing women to have babies they do not want. What they care about is then punishing those children for being born by letting them be hungry, and abused. What they care about is trying to force the LGBTQ community back into closets and dark corners. What they care about is punishing people of color and continuing to try to relegate them to a permanent underclass. What they care about is protecting their privilege as white, Christian Americans. They do not care about anything or anyone other than themselves. Their votes will not change this November, so our votes must change everything.
