Everyone piles on after John Cornyn posts one of the dumbest tweets of all time
The problem for the Republicans these days is that the Democrats’ agenda is overwhelmingly popular, and the Democrats are winning in terms of making that agenda happen. This has left the Republicans with nothing to do but complain, and disingenuously at that.
Take, for instance, President Biden’s speech last night. He stated all Americans will be eligible for the vaccine starting on May 1st, and that Americans should be able to enjoy a comparatively normal Fourth of July. That led Republican Senator John Cornyn to post this tweet: “If every willing person in America is vaccinated for COVID19 by May, as POTUS has said, why put our lives on hold till July the 4th?”
Dear Lord, where do we even start with this one? If everyone becomes eligible for the vaccine on May 1st, that doesn’t mean everyone will get the vaccine on May 1st; even with mass vaccination sites up and running, the implementation takes time. From there, many people will have to wait another month and get a second shot. In addition, even once everyone has had all their shots, immunity takes a couple weeks to kick in. So that’s how we get from May 1st to July 4th.
But that would require having two brain cells to rub together, which John Cornyn clearly does not have. Either that or Cornyn is merely pretending to be this dumb, in order to make a disingenuous argument. Either way, this is one of the dumbest tweets we can recall. Cornyn ended up getting four times as many negative replies as he got likes, making for an embarrassing Twitter ratio. He deserved it.
